9-11 20th anniversary remembrance event to encourage unity

Pensacola, Fla. -- September 11, 2021 marks 20 years since the World Trade Center attack. To honor the memory of the nearly 3,000 who died, the more than 7,000 military who have died in response to the attack, and the more than 30,000 military who have taken their own lives over the past 20 years, the public is invited to attend a free event that celebrates America, honors our military, first responders and Gold Star & Surviving Families.

The family-friendly event will feature patriotic speakers and music, and the day gets started with a First Responder “Touch-a-Truck” experience in the parking lot of WSRE Studios on the PSC Campus. Everyone is invited to see and touch first responder rigs including a Pensacola Fire Department ladder truck, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department Mobile Command Headquarters, Pensacola Police squad cars and more.

First responders, including local law enforcement and firefighters, will be available to meet and mingle with the public and demonstrate their equipment. Pensacola area leadership from the military, law enforcement, fire departments and the city and county also will be on hand.

Organizer Lt. Col. Dave Glassman USMC, Ret. said the event is meant to spark unity for the Pensacola area that he hopes will spread across the region and nation.

“9-11 is the seminal event of our time,” said Glassman. “No tragedy since Pearl Harbor has taken so much from us yet given us so much as it unified our nation. Twenty years later we want to remember — remember what brought us together — we have so much in common as citizens of this great country and everyone, young and old, is invited to join together and celebrate those things that unify us.”
