ICYMI: Volunteer Florida Announces Half a Million in Funding Available for Florida’s Nonprofits

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – On Wednesday, June 29, Volunteer Florida announced the availability of up to $520,000 in grant funding to assist Florida's nonprofit organizations in recruiting and retaining skills-based volunteers through the national Volunteer Generation Fund. Organizations interested in applying for one of the 24 possible grants should respond to the request for proposals by 5 pm (EST) Friday, August 12.

It is expected that this year’s Volunteer Generation Fund programs will help local nonprofits manage and support approximately 9,600 skills-based volunteers who will collectively contribute 72,000 hours of service throughout the State of Florida – a total value of $1,992,960.

The Volunteer Generation Fund helps organizations more effectively recruit, manage, support, and retain skills-based volunteers. Skills-based volunteers are professionals from all industries, such as nurses, lawyers, accountants, etc., whose skill, experience, and talent can match the needs of Florida's local nonprofits. Funding for the Volunteer Generation Fund is made available by AmeriCorps, the federal agency responsible for volunteering and national service, and administered in the State of Florida by Volunteer Florida.

Special consideration for funding will be given to organizations supporting rural communities, increasing economic opportunities through workforce development, and organizations that have received a certificate of completion of Volunteer Florida's Grant Writing Training. New and second-year subgrantee organizations will be eligible to receive $20,000 in grant funding, and third-year subgrantees will be eligible to receive $24,000 in grant funding.
