    As many of you know, we have begun preparing the State of Florida budget for fiscal year 2022. 
     
    As Chair of the Senate Transportation, Tourism, Economic Development Appropriations Committee, Senator Gainer has been tasked with overseeing member project funding, as well as, the budgets for the following agencies:
     
    •        Department of Transportation
    •        Department of Economic Opportunity
    •        Department of Emergency Management
    •        Department of State
    •        Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles
    •        Department of Military Affairs
    •        Affordable Housing Program
    •        State Housing Initiatives Partnership Program (SHIP)
    •        Enterprise Florida
    •        Visit Florida
    •        Space Florida
     
    Part of the Department of State silo includes grants for cultural affairs, historic preservation, and library/information services. While the application process for the upcoming fiscal year has closed, many applications for fiscal year 2023 will open shortly.
     
    In an effort to ensure our constituents are taking full advantage of these available programs, I am including direct links for the application process for these grants.  We encourage you to research these programs, see if this may be something you, or your organization, can benefit from, and complete your application before the next fiscal year deadline.

    1.      Cultural and Museum Grants (General Program Support)
    The next application cycle is April 1 – June 1, 2021 for the 2023 fiscal year.

    The General Program Support (GPS) grant is designed to fund up to $150,000 for the general program activities of an organization that is realizing its stated mission and furthering the state's cultural objectives.
     
    1.      Culture Builds Florida Grants
    The next application cycle is April 1 – June 1, 2021 for the 2023 fiscal year.

    The Specific Cultural Project (SCP) grant is designed to fund a cultural project, program, exhibition, series, Artists Performances on Tour, Arts in Education or Underserved Cultural Community Development project taking place within the grant period (July 1 through June 30). The grant activities must support the mission of the organization and further the state's cultural objectives.
     
    1.      Cultural Facilities Program
    The next application cycle is April 1 – June 1, 2021 for the 2023 fiscal year.

    The purpose of the Cultural Facilities Program is to coordinate and guide the State of Florida's support and funding of renovation, construction, or acquisition of cultural facilities.
     
    1.      Cultural Endowment Program
    The next application cycle is April 1 – June 1, 2021 for the 2023 fiscal year.

    The purpose of this program is to create an endowment matching funds program that will provide operating resources to participating cultural organizations. The first step in applying for an Endowment State Matching Share (SMS) is to be designated as a Cultural Sponsoring Agency (CSO).
     
    1.      Historic Preservation (Small Matching Grants)
    The next application cycle is April 1 – June 1, 2021 for the 2023 fiscal year.

    The Department of State, Division of Historical Resources, provides state and federal funds for historic preservation. The purpose of this program is to provide funding, in the form of grants, to assist local, regional and state-wide efforts to preserve significant historic and archaeological resources, and to promote knowledge and appreciation of the history of Florida. This program provides historic preservation grants on a competitive basis. The program does not fund operational support for historic preservation organizations.

    Public Library Construction grants are for the construction of public libraries. This includes the construction of new buildings and the acquisition, expansion or remodeling of existing buildings to be used for public library service.
