MANY STRUGGLING TO MAKE ENDS MEET |
|
More than 82,000 households in our community can't afford all of the basic necessities, according to new data from our research partner United for ALICE.
ALICE stands for "Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed." These hard-working individuals and families live on a "survival budget." Despite working one or more jobs, they do not make enough to save for retirement or emergencies but make too much to qualify for financial assistance that could help them cover their basic needs. |
|
To afford basic necessities in Escambia County, it costs $27,744 for a single adult and $64,440 for a family of four. In Santa Rosa County, it is $29,904 for a single adult and $69,168 for a family of four.
Those numbers are well above the Federal Poverty Level of $12,880 for a single adult and $26,500 for a family of four, which is the income the federal government utilizes to identify who receives benefits and assistance, |
